Private 2-day Product Development Consulting

Product development consulting for your idea only. We go through every detail of your idea and map out all important use cases, which is a necessary first step in identifying the requirements of your site or application.

What will you gain?

  • Two days with a product analyst, senior developer and a sales manager
  • A well-documented overview in the form or user stories of your product that you can use as the basis for a design or development quote
  • A wireframe, if requested

Why you need it?

The cost for design and development is usually more than anticipated because of all the rework needed due to initial half-thought ideas. Our aim is to get you a really clear view of your idea, so you can present it to designers, investors, or developers without a lot of hassle. It will help you spend less money and time in later steps.

Case study 1

  • We helped a small start-up map out all the important use cases in a two-day MVP workshop.
  • They used our designer to create clickable interface for their product.
  • They raised over $500,000 in project funding from investors in the US using our InVision design and applied the money to the development of their idea, which was brought to fruition by our developers.

The experience you get

300+different UX projects
60 000+hours of development experiece
9years of marketing experience
12workshops done

Process

1
Step 1 Created with Sketch.

We hold an initial Skype or Hangout meeting to assess if we can help you and what we can provide. (If we see that you might not get value from an MVP workshop, we tell you right away.)

2
Step 2 Created with Sketch.

If everything is ok and all questions are answered, we agree on time and place for the workshop.

3
Step 3 Created with Sketch.

There will be three people from our side – project manager (manages development projects daily) + sales manager + senior developer.

4
Step 4 Created with Sketch.

The workshop starts with a short intro and going over your company’s story and vision. We agree on main users and their goals, so we’ll all be on the same page.

5
Step 5 Created with Sketch.

We start to map out all the user journeys on the application/site with elements needed to be in place. We will look into details from the UX and developing perspective.

6
Step 6 Created with Sketch.

We start the second day with a brief summary of the first day and continue with the mapping (usually up to 3pm).

7
Step 7 Created with Sketch.

We finish the second day with a summary and discussion.

8
Step 8 Created with Sketch.

It usually takes about a week for us to put together the final scope document which could have between 75 - 150 user stories mapped out, depending on the size of the project. We share it with you for any changes, proposals, and questions.

9
Step 9 Created with Sketch.

If everything is ok, we will send you a Word and PDF document that are perfect for your next step – wireframing. You will then have a chance to review the document and make sure that everything that was discussed is written down and understandable.

10
Step 10 Created with Sketch.

Naturally, we’d be happy to create a wireframe for you as well. However, the document can be given to any designer or developer and they’ll be able to run with the project too.

When and where

You choose the place and a time. We usually do these in Estonia, Tallinn. If you haven’t visited our area before, our historic town and bogs make for a great vacation getaway.

But we’re more than happy to visit you as well since we’ve conducted MVP workshops in Norway and UK, based on the client’s preference.

Your input

Ideally, there are between 2-4 people representing the client since that has proven to be the most efficient team size for participating in the workshop. When there are additional people attending for some parts of the workshop it’s fine, but we need at least two who will be focused and dedicated the whole time.

One dedicated attendee should be the decision maker, so there aren’t delays waiting for feedback from someone who’s not involved in the process. When the application is meant for inside use, then we expect to have at least one user with us as well.

We usually like to start from the very beginning, meaning we ask a lot of questions from you instead of reading about it before. It helps as we are in a new customer/user position and will see all potential misunderstandings a lot better.

Despite this, if your field is very specific, we ask that you send us any must-read materials beforehand.

Case Study 2

  • A company wanted to build their own ticket-selling system, but management was not sure about the idea.
  • It was important to get it right for the in-house users as well for clients.
  • After the MVP workshop, they were able to get more detailed offers from design and development companies to assess the potential cost and profit of the project more accurately.

Outcome

Outcome of the MVP workshop is a 20-40-page document covering all important use cases. (Usually between 75-150 use cases in all.)

Pricing

The 2-Day MVP Workshop is 7500€. We usually agree on the wireframe budget (if you wish so) on the second day because it depends a lot of the idea – some ideas are really back-end heavy but easier for the UI, some are exactly the opposite. But as a rule of thumb the budget for the wireframe is usually in the same range with the workshop.

Why Choose Us

Our MVP workshops are performed as a joint service – Lavii + ThorGate.

ThorGate has a decade of experience designing and developing different types of applications and websites. We prefer to partner with them because they address the processes as analytically as we do (you can read about our step-by-step process for a new website). Meaning that first and foremost, we write down the goals and try to do as much planning as possible, so the next steps go smoother.

That is the main purpose of the MVP workshop – to help people with ideas and finalize these so they can move forward with a wireframe and development with less hassle.

It’s a perfect first step to get to know each other as well. The bigger the project, the more important the relationship between contributors is going to be.

Case Study 3

  • A team of specialists from their field had an idea for a new service they wanted to offer.
  • We held an MVP workshop and wireframed the prototype.
  • They did market research with it and determined there would not be enough paying clients.
  • They did not spend any money for the most expensive part – development.

What Will Happen After

If you chose to have an MVP workshop without a wireframe, we will give you an exact quote for the wireframe as well.

If you chose the MVP with a wireframe, we will leverage the MVP document and start on it.

Most of our MVP clients like to work with us after that as well, but that is not a requirement, of course. The outcome of the MVP workshop is to deliver a universal scope document which could be used for gathering feedback and design/development estimates not only from Thorgate. We’ve had instances where the client has used the document for getting estimates from other agencies and the fact that other providers were able to assess the costing of the project based on the scope document proves that one doesn’t necessarily need to participate in the workshop to understand the product.

Because the wireframe is comprehensive and clickable, some of our clients use them to attract investors as well. It demonstrates value and potential much more than an idea or PowerPoint presentation, so it’s easier to find the right partners. One of our recent MVP clients, for example, was able to find investors in the US to fund their project after the investors viewed the wireframe.
